As I reflect on my journey from the Managing-Editor-in-Chief of my high school newspaper to being a senior at Central Michigan University, majoring in Media Arts and Journalism, I’m struck by how much I’ve grown both personally and professionally. Over the past three years, working in sports broadcasting has fueled my passion for storytelling and allowed me to develop a broad skill set in a field I love.
Through my play-by-play experience across a variety of sports, I’ve improved my ability to communicate effectively, painting a vivid picture of the action for my audience. This experience has taught me the importance of preparation, flexibility, and staying calm under pressure—qualities essential not only for broadcasting but for any career.
Beyond being on the mic, I’ve gained hands-on technical expertise by setting up and operating cameras, managing live broadcasts, and producing content for radio. These opportunities have given me a comprehensive understanding of what it takes to create high-quality content, and the behind-the-scenes challenges that come with live production.
Looking ahead, I am excited to apply what I’ve learned in a full-time role within the media industry. I am confident that the skills I’ve developed, combined with my passion for the game, will enable me to make a meaningful contribution wherever my career takes me. I’m eager to continue learning, growing, and contributing to the media world in new and impactful ways.
